MEET ACORDION •Rescued By The South Florida S.P.C.A.
Another C-9 Basin Slaughter Area Rescue His name is Acordion and this is as bad as it gets and that’s saying something. This beautiful, 5 year old Thoroughbred race horse was found wandering around the infamous C-9 Basin slaughter area in NW Miami-Dade County last night. Actually, he wasn’t exactly “wandering” when we got to him. He was laying down and fighting to stay alive. SFSPCA managed to get him into our trailer and to our rescue ranch where he received immediate treatment. 
Here’s what we know about Acordion. He raced at Calder Race Track in 2008. His breeder is Rolando Rodriguez (shame on you for not keeping better track of your horses). His sire is Migrating Moon with career earnings of almost $6,000,000. His grandsire is Slew O’Gold with career earnings of almost $68,000,000! His great-grandsire is the famous Triple Crown Winner, Seattle Slew. Despite all that history and money, Acordion fell into that downward spiral that resulted in him having to fight for his life, thrashing in the dirt of the despicable C-9 Basin. Surely he deserves better than that. UPDATE: Despite heroic, round-the-clock efforts by SFSPCA volunteers and our veterinarian, Acordion took a turn for the worse and was humanely euthanized . This is the heartbreaking reality of inhumane treatment of horses.
