SPCA RESCUES FOUR SEVERLY MALNOURISHED AND INJURED HORSES
FOUR MORE STARVING HORSES RESCUED FROM 1 ½ MILE AREA OF NW MIAMI-DADE (HIALEAH) CH7 Story with Video: http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/21001399264929/ In February, South Florida SPCA was called upon to rescue 11 of 20 horses running stray in Hialeah. Regrettably, four days later, SFSPCA was legally required to release eight of the horses after their owners claimed them. Although all the horses were thin, they were not in the type of condition that would legally allow SFSPCA to keep them.
One of the unclaimed horses has been adopted into a retirement home and one has been sent to the Retirement Home for Horses in Alachua. The pregnant pony with the broken leg, Lollipop, was not claimed and has since given birth. Both Lollipop and her baby, Caruso, have been adopted.
June 8th, four more horses have been rescued from the same area as the original group rescued in February. These horses are in condition that SFSPCA will not be required to return them if owners show up. One of the horses, Virik’s Sis, is a registered racing Arabian with deep abscesses in her hooves and a severe injury to her leg. She is expected to recover. SFSPCA is seeking transfer of her ownership from the last known owner in Kentucky. All of these horses will be rehabilitated and put up for adoption.
