Dont’e was rescued with his mom Shakira and 4 other horses from the 8.5/East Everglades in SW Miami-Dade on June 28, 2017. (Scroll down to see rescue video – Dont’e was last in the trailer!) He and the others were unconfined/at large, posing a danger to themselves and the public. Charges have been filed by police against the owner.
7/7/17 UPDATE: Dont’e and Shakira have settled into their quarantine paddock where they’ll be until 7/19. He’s incredibly cute and becoming more friendly every day. We love watching him zip around the paddock! Shakira arrived underweight, so we’re making sure she has the proper nutrition she needs for herself and Dont’e. Our next update should show them in more robust health. Check back soon!
8/14/17 UPDATE: Oh, what a handsome boy Dont’e is becoming! And a great personality to match! Our staff has been working on ground training with him and it’s going very well. We’re very pleased with this colt’s progress!
12/17/17 UPDATE: Our boy is growing up! Dont’e was recently gelded and is doing great. He is friendly, leading well, trusting people and stands fine for the farrier. We are awaiting the outcome of his owner’s trial before making him available for adoption. It is currently set for January 8, 2017.
