Kelso was a victim of malnutrition, abandonment, and neglect. He was rescued with three others – Devil (now retired to sanctuary), Dude & Katie – on March 22, 2016. We have not tried him under saddle yet, please check back for updates.
OCTOBER 12, 2016 UPDATE: We now have Kelso in training and he’s doing great! We determined that he was never broke to ride and was likely abused. At first he would not accept a bit under any circumstances, and now he takes it easily with no fuss. We are very proud of his progress!
FEBRUARY 23, 2017 UPDATE: Kelso is sadly suffering from lameness and is not available to adopt until he is sound.
OCTOBER 11, 2017 UPDATE: Kelso is sound now and available for adoption. Unfortunately we’ve not been able to work with him under saddle since we’ve gotten him sound. He was evacuated to Ocala with the majority of our horses ahead of Hurricane Irma, and is due to return sometime before the end of the month. We hope to resume his retraining as soon as possible.
If you are interested in adopting Kelso, please first review our adoption application (CLICK HERE). If you feel you meet our requirements and would like more information on him, or to arrange to meet him, please email our adoption committee at email@example.com.
