4/7/17 UPDATE: Martini has rehabilitated physically, blossoming into a gorgeous mare. Mentally, she is still recovering from abuse and neglect but we are making progress. Sherra McLeod, a long-time volunteer and licensed massage therapist, remarked, “I was drawn to Martini one day when I noticed how fragile she was and kept to the far side of her stall. I would talk softly to her and eventually would stand in her stall as I gave her gentle neck massages. Martini started to respond and I started giving her massages after grooming every time I came to the ranch. She has really come out of her shell and isn’t as fearful. Just last week, after her massage she even gently nibbled on my arm in such a tender ‘I will groom you’ gesture. She just seems so appreciative of everything that we do for her. I love her.”
As for Martini under saddle, we’ve had a very light rider on her and she was complacent. Of course, we have done groundwork with her. Overall, we’re taking it slow and gentle with this special girl.
