Morgan is a lovely mare, well behaved on the ground and stands for grooming, bathing and the farrier. We note that she is blind in her left eye and can be little nervous when handled or approached from the left side. Morgan is very quiet and willing under saddle, and would make a nice trail horse for a smaller-sized rider who is conscientious about guiding her due to her left eye blindness. Said SFSPCA founder and director of rescue operations, “I hopped on Morgan bareback in a halter recently, and she was great. She’s one of our nicer horses right now.”
RESCUE STORY: Morgan and her foal Flirt owe their lives to an anonymous citizen who called us to report them and three other horses abandoned in a remote, vacant field with no food or water in the infamous 8.5/East Everglades on Thursday, May 18, 2017. Had they been left there much longer, they definitely would not have lived. Morgan was in by far the worst shape of the group, down to skin and bone, scoring only a 1 on the Henneke body scoring scale, and was producing very little milk. This strong and resilient mare amazed us with how quickly she, as a nursing mother, recovered.
If you are interested in adopting Morgan, please first complete and submit the adoption application (link below). Once your application is received, we will get in touch with you about next steps. Our staff is always busy picking up new rescues, tending to sick or injured horses, and even testifying in cruelty cases, so it may take up to a few days to respond. Your patience is appreciated!
