Over the last 25 years, we’ve witnessed many miracles, and Sambuca is certainly one of them. Starved and neglected to the point of near death, we seized Sambuca in the nick of time on May 27, 2015, along with Cosmo and Martini in a horrific cruelty case in SW Miami-Dade. (For more information on the case, CLICK HERE.)
As you can see from the intake photos, she was down to skin and bone. But what you don’t see is the emotional trauma and anguish she was experiencing. Restoring her weight took a long time, and her mental health even longer. She has come such a long way and we are very proud of this beauty for not giving up on herself, and for allowing herself to trust humans again. When she arrived, she was extremely fearful, and was almost impossible to catch in the field. Now, she’s very friendly and happy to be approached.
Our hope for Sambuca is a compassionate adopter who will continue guiding her on this positive path, and will never allow her to suffer or starve again. She has not been started under saddle, but is ready for training. She cross ties, picks up her feet, but still needs some improvement with the farrier (though she can be trimmed without sedation).
Could Sambuca be your forever horse? Contact our Adoption Committee to learn more about her and to schedule an appointment to see her via email at (only if you are 18 or older). Please note we only adopt within the state of Florida.
