We rescued Wide Open, a tattooed Thoroughbred, on October 9, 2017 after a citizen reported to police three emaciated horses being kept in unhealthy/unsafe conditions at a ramshackle boarding facility in the C-9 Basin. Wide Open arrived with a body condition score of a 1, the lowest on the scale, along with a stifle injury. We started him on a careful refeeding program, and provided immediate vet care. Wide Open and his rescue mates, Albumasar and Ajax, are in quarantine until October 30.
12/17/17 UPDATE: The two months that Wide Open aka Ben has had with us have been good for him! The soft feet he came in with are hardening and healing well, and as you can see from his featured photo, he’s regaining his weight. While he rehabilitates, his owner faces animal cruelty charges at trial currently scheduled for Wednesday, December 20, 2017. For more information, click here.
